In Museum exhibition one can know the history of the ancient city and the immediate area. In warehouses and laboratories ensure the safekeeping and maintenance is performed and the study of the findings archaeological excavations brought to light. In the exhibition hall, the lobby, the silver reliquary exposed and gold wreath of olive leaves found in a cist grave, where you are now built the museum. OLD SERRES CATHEDRAL MUSEUM
Open: Winter (November 1-March 31): 08.30-15.00 Visit after consulting with Mr. I. Kamilalis, Serres guard (+30 23210 56 205). The Museum of the Old Cathedral of Serres was founded on the occasion of the reopening of the Byzantine church of St. Theodore (Old Cathedral) as a pilgrimage church. It was considered necessary to set out in some space and Byzantine sculptures from the monument itself. The report finally developed in the northern outbuilding of the monument and in the courtyard. They exposed several sculptures that once belonged to the temple's sculptural decoration, and various funerary monuments. In visual material history of the city outlines, the fortifications and the history of the monument. SARAKATSANI FOLKLORE MUSEUM
Open: Daily 09.00-14.00 Closed on Mondays Every year the museum is closed from July 15 until August 20 for maintenance of hardware and because the personnel is on leave. Tickets: Students: 1,00 € Individuals: 3,00 € For groups (per person): 2,00 € The Sarakatsani Folklore Museum consists of three levels, a basement, a ground floor and a first floor. In the basement there are storage areas, library, conference hall and teaching hall for traditional dances and songs. On the ground and first floor it exhibits the life and art of Sarakatsani, during the last phase of their nomadic life, the interwar period, and by the end of the 1940s. The exhibition was organized with the aim of maintaining the ancient greek elements, which kept intact the Sarakatsani through their culture, their lives and their art, and their passing on to the younger generations.Category: MUSEUMS
