The bulk of the works dates back to the 18th and 19th century. Few are the exhibits, mainly incunabula and few icons, dating from the 15th-16th-17th century.

  • FOLKLORE AND HISTORY OF ART MUSEUM OF ORESTIADA AND REGION

    Open: Daily and on weekends 10.00-13.00, except Mondays.   The Museum can be visited occasionally, by excursionists (group) or students, any day and time, upon call to the president of the Museum Mr. Paschalis Mavridis (tel.: 6977 567 566).   Tickets: Full: 2€, Students: 0,50 € 1€ for the monitoring of educational programs   The museum exhibits historical and folklore material of Eastern Thrace, Eastern Rumelia and Western Thrace period 1800-1950, there are exposed mainly authentic rural and urban traditional Thracian costumes, sacred vessels, agricultural and professional tools, musical instruments and household effects. The most important exhibits are traditional Thracian costumes and the most important activities of the Association are the temporary exhibitions, cultural events and run educational programs. The purpose of the museum are the visitors, locals and foreigners, to learn about the history of the region, the uprooting of the unforgettable home, lifestyle raw refugees inhabitants of Nea Orestiada, the tradition of the region and the instruments used for n 'face the difficulties of their first settlement.

  • SILK MUSEUM

    Open: March 1-October 15: Daily (except Tuesday) 10.00-18.00 October 16-February 28: Daily (except Tuesday) 10.00-17.00   Tickets: Full: € 3, Reduced: € 1,5   The Silk Museum in Soufli presents all the phases and the stages of the pre-industrial process of rearing silkworms (sericulture) and of silk processing (silk manufacturing) within the socio-economic context that made the region a major silk-producing centre in Greece (late 19th to mid-20th century). -The First section presents the history of silk that begins from China, continues with the Greco-Roman antiquity and Byzantium, moves on to the West and proceeds up to the Ottoman period. -The Second section is on the stages of rearing silkworms from the production of silkworm eggs until - apopnixi ("firing") of cocoons. -The Third section refers to the processing of silk from the cleaning and sorting of cocoons to the process of weaving the famous silk from Soufli. -The Fourth section analyzes the wider socio-economic context of silk industry development, both in Greece and in Europe (19th-20th c.) with particular emphasis on the rise and decline of the silk industry in Soufli and its contribution to the development of the city.
