ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM OF AGRINION
Open: Tuesday - Sunday: 08:00-15:00. Monday closed. Tickets: Full: €2, Reduced: €1 Special ticket package: Full: €8, Reduced: €4 The Archaeological Museum of Agrinion was founded in the 1960s and housed in a building which was built with a donation of brothers Papastratos who dealt with tobacco trade in the early 20th century. The Papastratos brothers cared for their hometown and offered to it in numerous projects, including the Archaeological Museum of the city. The museum was opened in 1969 and has been operating in the same building until today. The large number of archaeological sites of the prefecture always supplied the museum with new findings. The Archaeological Museum of Agrinion is located at the southeast corner of Papastratos park, next to the old Papastratos Library. Half the building housed the Municipal Library and the other half the museum. Now the entire building is housing the Museum and both Incorporated halls of the Library serve as a workshop and warehouse. The Museum's collections are being exhibited in the small hall and two rooms, and include pottery, tools, metal objects, tombstones and sculptures from various places of the county. In other words, the Museum contains the cultural treasures of the wider area of the region, dating from the Neolithic Age (7000 BC) to the late Roman period (4th century AD).Category: MUSEUMS
